It is officially December, the ground is covered in snow and anything cold to drink doesn’t sound nice to me at all!
Nothing says cozy, warm winter nights inside like hot cocoa! This recipe will leave you happy inside as well as healthy!
Honey is only one of the power boosting ingredients in this hot cocoa. My fiancé’s allergies have been acting up in this weather change, so I got some local, raw honey from the health food store. They had honey combs and the liquid gold in a jar. Read more about honey here.
Why use regular ole cocoa powder when you can have one packed with extra nutrients?! I love Garden of Life’s Perfect Food RAW Cacao powder. It is great to get the taste of chocolate, yet the benefits of eating salad. Read my review (and enter to win some!) here.
If you can handle the lactose, by all means, use a quality local cow’s milk. Goat’s milk is one I use occasionally without problems since it is lower in lactose. I usually use homemade sunflower seed milk, but for this recipe I used half almond milk and half full fat coconut milk from a can for a creamy drink.
Power-Boosted Hot Cocoa
1.5 cup non-dairy milk (almond, coconut, sunflower – store-bought or homemade)
1 Tbsp Raw, Local Honey
1 scoop Garden of Life Perfect Food RAW Cacao Green SuperFood powder
1 tsp coconut oil or ghee (homemade or Pure Indian Foods)
1 tsp peppermint powder
1) Put your milk on low heat on the stove top.
2) Mix together the honey and Chocolate Cacao Perfect Food RAW powder in mug to create a chocolate syrup.
3) Pour the hot, not boiling, milk into the mug and mix with the chocolate syrup.
4) Optionally, add peppermint powder and ghee for a minty, creamy touch.
Makes one serving of hot cocoa.
